The Bonasika bauxite, direct transport of ore (DSO) project has started development work in Guyana. Guyanese Industrial Minerals (GINMIN), a subsidiary of First Bauxite Corporation, remains the developer of the project.

According to the plan, the bauxite of the Bonasika project will be mined and processed in Guyana, and calcined and sintered in Louisiana, USA.

According to reports, the output of bauxite was between 100000 and 150000 tons last year. Elliott Lincoln, president of Guyanese Industrial Minerals (FBX), a subsidiary of first Bauxite (GINMIN), said: "one year after the opening of Bonasika's mines and processing plants, operations are still in the 'soft production' stage. The outbreak disrupted their plans to increase production and forced the company to make decisions in the best interests of its employees. "
