SMM12: mining giant Rio Tinto's Jadar project has the potential to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate and boric acid.
Recently, the company announced its first ore reserve of 16.6 million tons, classified as 1.18% lithium oxide and 13.4% boron trioxide, with estimated mineral resources of 55.2 million tons, including 1.68% lithium oxide and 17.9% boron trioxide, as well as 84.1 million tons of speculated resources. Lithium oxide 1.84%, boron trioxide 12.6%.
Jadar is one of the largest green lithium projects under development and will be able to produce about 55000 tons / year of battery-grade lithium carbonate, as well as 160000 tons / year of boric acid and 255000 tons / year of sodium sulfate by-products.
At the end of July, the project entered the feasibility study phase with an investment of nearly US $200 million, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 and, if approved, could take up to four years to build.
