SMM12, March 1 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Vedanta said Thursday it is still looking for an employee trapped underground due to the collapse of the Gamsberg zinc mine in South Africa last week.

The Gamsberg mine opened in early 2019. Vedanta Zinc International is the largest owner, with 69.6 per cent of the shares, while Exxaro Resources has 24.4 per cent. The remaining 6% is held by the employee stock ownership plan.

According to SMM, due to the long shutdown of overseas Gamsberg mines and the intensification of the shortage of overseas zinc ore supply, import processing fees have been lower than in early November, and there are now transactions of US $70-80 per dry ton.

Vedanta said that in the first stage of full capacity production, Gamsberg will produce 250000 tons of zinc concentrate per year.
