SMM11: according to the latest ranking of the World Bank, the West African country Guinea is now the world's second largest bauxite producer, ahead of China and behind Australia.

According to an analysis of data from the latest World Bank report on the outlook for commodity markets, bauxite production in Guinea increased from 59.6 million tons in 2018 to 70.2 million tons in 2019. The 18% growth allows it to grab market share from China.

China's output last year was almost the same as in 2018, at 68.4 million tons of bauxite. However, China's production has barely increased since 2015. Guinea will now compete with Australia, which is currently the world's leading country, producing more than 105 million tons of bauxite in 2019.

By 2029, global bauxite production will mainly come from Australia, Indonesia and Guinea, according to Fitch Solutions, a consultancy.
