SMM11 March 26: Ghana only alumina refining phase does not carry out the rest of the work here, that is, bauxite mining, aluminum smelter producing aluminum ingots and casting aluminum ingots into sheets, coils and profiles.

The Ghanaian Export Promotion Agency ((GEPA)) stressed the need for the country to establish an alumina refinery to process bauxite raw materials and to establish an integrated aluminum industry. The establishment of an alumina refinery will increase the country's income from minerals and open up a job creation.

The export promotion agency observed that the country made less profit from the large amount of bauxite raw materials because the plant was unable to process bauxite for local and export markets. "the government needs to speed up negotiations with foreign investors, especially the China National Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Corporation, to set up bauxite refineries within the planned time to help increase the value of bauxite and increase metal export revenues," GEPA explained.
