Tesla wants to produce electric buses?

SMM: on Oct. 15, Elon Musk (Elon Musk) mentioned the possibility of Tesla electric bus in a new tweet, but he later deleted the tweet, sparking public discussion that Tesla will launch a new model.

On October 14, Boring, Tesla's tunnel company, submitted an application to expand the Las Vegas Ring Road project, which is expected to expand from the convention and exhibition center to the whole city. The company plans to use Tesla cars to run at full speed between tunnel stations to provide passenger service. Boring has been using the image of vehicles with high passenger density in the project, leading some to believe that Tesla is building a new car for the project.

In the early morning of Oct. 14, Musk reiterated that the project would "basically" only use Tesla cars in the tunnel. When asked if Tesla had any plans to produce cars with higher passenger density, Musk replied: "if necessary, we will produce Tesla models with high passenger density." Maybe it would be better to build more tunnels. There is no restriction on the number of tunnels. " But he quickly deleted the comment.

However, Musk has mentioned the Tesla car with high passenger density, that is, the bus, many times before.

He once said in "the second chapter of Tesla's grand blueprint," (Tesla Master Plan Part 2): "in addition to passenger cars, two types of electric vehicles are needed: heavy trucks and urban vehicles with high passenger density. In both areas, Tesla is in the early stages of development and is expected to launch a new car next year. We believe that Tesla Semi will greatly reduce freight costs and improve safety, making the driving process interesting. "

Tesla has indeed launched Tesla Semi, but it has not yet launched "urban transport with high passenger density". This is the only car in Tesla's grand blueprint that has not yet been announced. Musk also discussed the production of electric minibuses based on the Model X, but it didn't happen either.

Earlier this year, Boring announced plans to build a loop tunnel for San Bernardino, California. At the time, a county official mentioned that Tesla was building an "electric van that can hold 12 people and their luggage" for the tunnel project, and the public began to pay attention to the possibility of Tesla producing cars with high passenger density.
