Beijing Oriental B11 Factory supplies OLED screens for some of the new iPhone 12 machines.

SMM: the time for the launch of Apple's new iPhone 12 machine has been set.

According to all kinds of revelations and media reports, there are four new Apple opportunities: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

A reporter from Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily learned exclusively from the supply chain that all the new iPhone phones released this time use OLED screens. In addition to the two new models, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, screen suppliers include BOE.

Previously, BOE provided LCD screens for Apple's iPhone. The iPhone X is the first model that JD.com has provided Apple with an OLED screen.

In February, it was revealed that BOE had successfully entered the Apple supplier catalog to supply iPhone with flexible OLED screen panels.

However, BOE has not been able to change its second supply role this time, as well as South Korea's LGD. The main supplier of Apple 12 new OLED screen is Samsung Display, a panel factory owned by Samsung of South Korea.

People related to the supply chain told reporters, "the second supply is the spare tire, the supply is not large." Generally speaking, the second supply will have a chance to rise to the top only when there is a problem with the first supply, or when the sudden increase in demand leads to a shortage of the first supply. "

According to media reports, in September 2019, BOE resumed its efforts to enter Apple's iPhone supply chain. In early 2019, BOE tried to supply Apple's iPhone 12, but Apple eventually adopted LGD and Samsung and excluded BOE because the yield did not meet the requirements.

BOE has a 6th generation flexible AMOLED production line in Chengdu and Mianyang respectively. Chengdu Line (B7) is the first flexible AMOLED production line in China and the second mass-produced 6th generation flexible AMOLED production line in the world.

According to media sources, the B11 factory was put into production in 2019, with a low yield of only 20%. The product line yield of the B7 factory reached 70%, 80%. Previously, it was mainly supplied by Huawei and other domestic mobile phones.

It seems that this supply should be B7 factory, because the yield is higher. But surprisingly, "Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily" reporter learned from the supply chain, "Mianyang B11 factory for the new Apple OLED screen supply."

B11 factory of Mianyang line is the second flexible OLED panel producing area after Chengdu B7 factory, with an investment of RMB 46.5 billion.
