Global sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 248000 in August, up 52.8% from a year earlier.

SMM: according to EVsales data, global sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 248000 in August, down 2.7% from the previous month and up 52.8% from a year earlier, basically maintaining the level of sales in July. In terms of market structure, pure electric models account for 67% and plug-in hybrid models account for 33%.

Thanks to the Chinese market, Tesla's global sales of the Model 3 again exceeded 30, 000 in August, accounting for a 37.8 per cent share of the Chinese market. Not only that, Tesla's other model, Model Y, also achieved global sales of 8052 vehicles in August, ranking third in monthly bicycle sales.

Hongguang MINI EV also sold nearly 10,000 vehicles in August, ranking second in bicycle sales. In the coming months, there will be room for further improvement in Hongguang's MINI sales.

From a cumulative point of view, Tesla's cumulative global sales of Model 3 has reached nearly 200000, nearly four times ahead of Renault Zoe, which ranks second. Domestic brands have entered the global cumulative sales of new energy models TOP20, including BYD Qin EV, GAC NE Aion S, Baojun E Series, Xilai ES6 and the newly entered Hongguang MINI EV, which ranked eighth, 10th, 13th, 20th and 18th respectively.

In terms of car companies, Tesla sold 42887 vehicles worldwide in August, with the main product, Model 3, contributing 72.9 per cent. From January to August this year, Tesla's cumulative sales reached 253000 vehicles, accounting for 17.6% of the global new energy vehicle market share.

Volkswagen and BYD ranked second and third with cumulative sales of 89000 and 86000 vehicles respectively, with a market share of 6.2 per cent and 5.9 per cent, respectively.

In addition to BYD, there are four domestic car companies that have entered the TOP20, namely SAIC passenger cars, GAC NE, BAIC New Energy and Xilai Motor. The four car companies ranked fifth, 14th, 19th and 20th respectively.

European market

According to EVsales, the European new energy passenger car market, which includes pure electric models and plug-in hybrids, delivered 97482 vehicles, down 14.2% from the previous month and 38.2% from a year earlier. In August, the penetration rate of Europe's new energy market reached 11%, of which the penetration rate of pure electric vehicles was 5.7%. From a cumulative point of view, the penetration rate of the new energy market is 8.4%, of which the penetration rate of pure electric vehicles is 4.5%.

In terms of best-selling models, Renault Zoe fell another 34.1% month-on-month, ranking second behind Tesla Model 3, accounting for 6.3% of Europe's new energy market share in August, but still ranked first in cumulative sales. Its main markets are France (1618), Germany (2210), Italy (509) and the United Kingdom (2210).

Tesla Model 3, which ranks second in cumulative sales, returned to June levels in European delivery in August, with a market share of 7.2 per cent. Its main markets are Germany (2824), the United Kingdom (950) and the Netherlands (609).

In terms of market share, Volkswagen, BMW and Renault ranked top three with a market share of 9 per cent, followed by Volvo and Tesla with 8 per cent.

German market

According to EVsales, the German new energy passenger car market, including pure electric models and plug-in hybrid models, continued to hit new highs, delivering a total of 33171 vehicles, down 7.6% from the previous month and an increase of 308.5% over the same period last year. Among them, the year-on-year increase in the plug-in market was 448%, and about 17000 vehicles were delivered. In August, the penetration of the new energy market rose to 13%, of which the penetration rate of pure electric vehicles was 6.4%. From a cumulative point of view, the penetration rate of the new energy market is 9.2%, of which the penetration rate of pure electric vehicles is 4.3%.

In terms of best-selling models, Tesla Model 3 has become the leader in monthly model sales with a sales performance of 2824 vehicles, and currently ranks third in cumulative sales. Renault Zoe and Volkswagen e-Golf fell 22.5% and 47.5% respectively from the previous month, but their cumulative sales ranked first and second among the models sold in the German new energy market.

In terms of market share of each brand, Volkswagen still ranks first with 15% of the market, Mercedes surpasses Audi with a market share of 12%, and Audi is not far behind with a market share of 10%.

French market

According to EVSavles, the French new energy passenger car market delivered 10856 vehicles in August, including 5590 pure electric models and 5266 mixed models.

In terms of best-selling models, three of the TOP5 models sold in a single month are French models, and the other two are Korean models. The No. 1 car comes from Renault Zoe, which is currently the top seller in France, both in terms of bicycles and cumulative sales.

The second-ranked model is Peugeot 208EV, which currently ranks second with cumulative sales of 10916 vehicles, while Tesla Model delivered only 261vehicles in France in March and August, ranking fourth in cumulative terms.

In terms of market share, Renault has the largest market share, with 25 per cent, while Peugeot ranks second with 21 per cent, while DS and Tesla both rank third and fourth with 5 per cent.

In August 2020, sales of Norwegian new energy passenger cars, including pure electric models and plug-in hybrids, reached 10802, up 82.5 per cent from a year earlier, according to EVSales. For the whole year, the market share of new energy vehicles is 69%, of which pure electric models account for 48% of the market.

In terms of best-selling models, Audi e-tron ranked first with monthly sales of 755 vehicles, ranking first among all models in cumulative sales. Mercedes-Benz EQC ranked second in bicycle sales with 595 units in August, but its cumulative sales are currently only 2137, temporarily ranking sixth.

In terms of market share of each brand, Volkswagen currently leads with a market share of 12%; Audi ranks second with a market share of 10%; and Toyota ranks third with a market share of 8%.

Recently, the 220 kV Ru'an ESS power station, located in the Linfen Economic Development Zone in Shanxi, successfully completed full-capacity grid connection testing and was officially put into operation. The project was invested and constructed by Linfen Ronglin Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., with a total investment of approximately 400 million yuan and covering an area of 50 mu. The ESS power station has a total installed capacity of 200 MW/400 MWh, adopts high-safety LFP battery technology, and consists of 80 prefabricated containerized energy storage units. The power station collects electricity through 35 kV collector lines and is connected to the 220 kV Feihong substation via a newly built 220 kV step-up station.
