In August, the global new energy car market: China set a new high, Germany, France and Britain "fly"

SMM News: August, the overall global auto market recovery is weak, most market sales are on a downward trend. However, the new energy vehicle market segment is another day, sales are extremely hot. Among them, electric car sales in China reached an all-time high; electric vehicle sales in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Sweden saw triple-digit growth; Denmark's electric vehicle sales grew rapidly and electrification was higher than the European average; Norway is still the country with the highest degree of electrification, with a market share of 70.2%.

China: sales rose 25.8% compared with the same period last year, reaching an all-time high

According to data released by the China Automobile Association, sales of new energy vehicles in China reached 109000 in August, up 11.7% from the previous month and 25.8% from a year earlier, setting an all-time high. Among them, the sales of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles showed an increase compared with the same period last year. In addition, sales of fuel cell vehicles have grown rapidly this month and have performed significantly better than last month.

On the whole, the increase in sales of new energy vehicles in August has a lot to do with the activities of going to the countryside and supporting policies in various places. New car-building forces such as Lulai and ideal have also made efforts in recent months, of which Tesla Model 3 sold 11800 vehicles in August, an increase of 7.2% over July 11000.

Analysts at the Global Automotive Research Institute pointed out, "in addition to the growth in personal consumption, the ride-hailing platform also puts forward a greater demand for new energy vehicles, and with the help of various policies, new energy vehicles will maintain a relatively good growth momentum in the next few months."

Germany: sales surged by 308% year-on-year with a record market share

Although overall car sales in Germany fell 20 per cent in August, electric car sales maintained a strong growth momentum since July. That month, Germany sold 33171 electric cars, a year-on-year increase of 308 per cent, and its market share rose to 13.2 per cent, a new record.

Of this total, sales of pure electric vehicles reached 16076, up 221% from the same period last year, while sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 17095, up 448% from the same period last year. The best-selling electric car in Germany that month was the Tesla Model 3, with sales of 2824, followed by Renault Zoe, with 2210.

France: 219% increase in sales compared with the same period last year, accounting for 10.5% of the market share

Overall car sales in France, Europe's second-largest car market, fell 20 per cent in August, but the electric car market remained strong, with sales of 28823 vehicles, up 219 per cent from a year earlier, accounting for 10.5 per cent of the market. Of these, sales of pure electric passenger vehicles were 15572, up 198% from the same period last year; sales of plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles were 12292, up 380% from the same period last year; and sales of pure electric light commercial vehicles increased 22% to 959.

In terms of models, the top seller of electric cars in France is naturally Renault Zoe,. Other best-selling electric cars include Hyundai Kona EV, Kia Niro EV and Nissan Leaf.

Norway: sales increased by 28.1% compared with the same period last year, with a market share of 70.2%.

In August, the Norwegian electric car market grew for the second month in a row, with an increase of 28.1%. A total of 7585 electric vehicles were sold, with a market share of 70.2%, the second highest in history. Of these, pure electric vehicles sold 5704, accounting for 52.8 per cent of the market share, while plug-in hybrids sold 1881, accounting for 17.4 per cent of the market share.

In terms of models, the best-selling electric car in Norway that month was Audi eMurtron, which sold 755 cars; Mercedes-Benz EQC once again achieved very strong results, selling 595 vehicles; and Polestar 2 ranked third with 504 vehicles.

UK: sales soar 110% compared with the same period last year, accounting for 10% market share

Although overall car sales in the UK fell by 5 per cent in August, sales of electric vehicles doubled, according to official figures. Of this total, sales of pure electric vehicles reached 5589, compared with 3147 in the same period last year, up 78% from a year earlier, while sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 2922, up 222% from 910 in the same period last year. In the month, total electric car sales in the UK reached 8511, up 110 per cent from a year earlier, accounting for 1/10 of all new car sales in the UK.

In terms of models, Tesla Model 3, Nissan Leaf, Mingjue ZS EV, Jaguar I-Pace and Renault Zoe are all popular pure electric models, while BMW 330e and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV are popular plug-in hybrids.

Netherlands: 75% year-on-year increase in sales and 21% market share

The overall Dutch car market fell again in August, with sales down 22% from a year earlier, but electric vehicle sales continued to rise rapidly, rising 75% year-on-year to 5680 units, accounting for 21% of the market. That month, the Dutch electric car sales were driven up by plug-in hybrid vehicles, which surged 382%, while those of pure electric vehicles rose only 47%.

In terms of models, Kia Niro EV competed fiercely with Tesla Model 3, which won the top spot in Dutch electric car sales in August (sixth in overall vehicle sales rankings), while ZS EV; Renault Zoe ranked third with 290units, the highest monthly sales so far this year, and Volkswagen eColor Zoe ranked fifth with 283units. It is worth noting that the top five models are all pure electric vehicles.

Sweden: sales rose 182% year-on-year, accounting for 1/3 of the market share

Sweden is one of the hottest electric car markets in Europe, and electric vehicle sales will soon account for 1/3 of the market.

Since the beginning of this year, Swedish electric vehicle sales have maintained positive growth almost every month. In August, electric vehicle sales in the country nearly tripled (182 per cent) from a year earlier to 7407, accounting for 29 per cent of total car sales.

In terms of brands, Volvo, Volkswagen and Kia were, as usual, the best-selling electric car brands in Sweden; in terms of models, the best-selling electric cars in Sweden that month were Volvo XC60 PHEV and Kia Niro PHEV.

Denmark: sales are growing rapidly and account for 20% of the market share

In Europe, where sales of electric cars are growing rapidly, Denmark's electrification is above average. Sales of electric cars in Denmark have skyrocketed this year. In August, in particular, electric car sales reached 3474, accounting for 20 per cent of the market share and a very strong performance. In the first eight months of this year, Denmark sold nearly 15000 electric cars, an increase of 390 per cent year-on-year.

In terms of models, the Ford Kuga PHEV became the best-selling electric car in Denmark for the second month in a row, with a total of 1509 sold.
