SMM9: electric carmaker Tesla has reportedly bought 381 acres of land in Austin, Texas, for future expansion. This is the fifth factory after the super factories in Reno, Nevada, Buffalo, New York, Shanghai and Berlin have been put into production or started construction.

Tesla said the plant would produce the first electric pickup trucks, Cybertruck and Semi electric semitrailers, as well as Model Y crossovers for customers on the east coast. Tesla's goal is to open the factory next year.

The factory will employ about 5000 people, most of which (65 per cent) use unskilled labour, which the company says does not require a college degree.
