[SMM analysis: the proportion of 5G mobile phone shipments in August remains 60%. Domestic lithium cobalt supply is expected to be flat in September.] according to SMM, September-November is the peak of domestic mobile phone shipments, and the procurement of upstream batteries and materials is concentrated in July-September, so the domestic lithium cobalt supply trend increases from July to September. Domestic lithium cobalt supply is 6800 tons in July and 6900 tons in August. Domestic lithium cobalt supply is expected to be basically flat in September.

SMM9 March 15: it is believed that in August 2020, the domestic mobile phone market shipped 26.907 million units, up 20.7% from the previous month, down 12.9% from January to August last year, and the domestic mobile phone market shipped a total of 202 million units from January to August, down 19.5% from the same period last year, according to data from Tongyuan. From September to October, major mobile phone manufacturers have launched new products one after another, and the total domestic mobile phone shipments are expected to be 36 million in September, up 33.8% from the previous month.

Among them, 16.17 million 5G mobile phones were shipped in the domestic market in August, accounting for 60.1% of mobile phone shipments in the same period, and 22 new models were on the market, accounting for 48.9% of the number of new mobile phones on the market in the same period. From January to August, the domestic market shipped a total of 93.679 million 5G mobile phones and 141 new models on the market, accounting for 46.3% and 46.8%, respectively. The new phones are mainly launched with 5G phones, and the domestic market is expected to ship 24 million 5G phones in September, accounting for 66.7 per cent of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

Although domestic 5G mobile phone shipments accounted for a decrease in the proportion of month-on-month, it still reached 60%. Liu Liehong, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that 5G is the key enabling technology for the development of the industrial Internet, and the industrial Internet has opened up a broader space for the development of 5G. At present, the number of 5G base stations has exceeded 400000, and the industrial Internet has become the main position for 5G industrial applications. The technology superposition effect and multiplier effect of "5G + industrial Internet" integration innovation are gradually emerging.

According to SMM, September-November is the peak of domestic mobile phone shipments, and the procurement of upstream batteries and materials is concentrated in July-September, so the domestic lithium cobalt supply tends to increase from July to September. Domestic lithium cobalt supply is 6800 tons in July and 6900 tons in August. It is expected that the domestic lithium cobalt supply in September is basically the same as the previous month.

Downstream mobile phone shipments are expected to decline gradually in the fourth quarter, superimposed battery factory inventory accumulation, and purchase orders for lithium cobalt oxide are expected to gradually decrease.
