Lygend to supply 2.2Mt Cobalt compounds to China Metal Recycling Corporation GEM

SMM9 March 4: recently, PT Halmahera Persada Lygend will supply 17.9 million tons of nickel compounds and up to 2.2Mt cobalt compounds to the Chinese metal recycling company GEM.

PT Halmahera Persada Lygend is a joint venture between Indonesian Halita Group (Harita Group) and Chinese mining company Ningbo Lygend. Lygend is currently building a factory on Obi Island in the archipelago.

The eight-year supply agreement, which will take effect no later than June 30, 2021, will take effect as soon as the Obi Island plant enters commercial operation. More financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Previously, GEM focused on recycling waste resources containing cobalt, nickel and tungsten and processing them into ultra-fine cobalt and nickel powders.
