SMM9 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- Copper mining in Peru, the world's second-largest producer, has almost completely recovered from the effects of the epidemic, a government official said Tuesday.

Peru's copper production in July fell 2.2% from a year earlier to 198796 tons, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines Jaime Galvez said in a report.

In mid-March the Peruvian Government issued a quarantine measure against coronavirus with special restrictions on mining activities.

Mining, Peru's main economic engine, began to recover gradually in May.

In early August, the Peruvian government said copper production in the first half of 2020 was 20.4 per cent lower than in the same period in 2019.
