SHANGHAI, Aug 27 (SMM) — China imported 1.8 million mt of copper concentrate in July, up 12.6% from June, but down 13.47% from a year ago. Imports totalled 12.66 million mt in the first seven months of 2020, 0.23% higher against the same period last year, according to the latest customs data.
Imports from Chile increased in July as logistics improved after local lockdowns eased. China imported 713,000 mt of copper concentrate from Chile in July. Imports from Peru increased 33,000 mt from June to 280,000 mt in July, but remained lower than the normal level. Copper concentrate imported from Canada, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and Laos also improved in July.
SMM expects imports to reach a peak in September.
