SMM: according to German automotive magazine Auto Motor und Sport, BMW has announced a recall of 4460 plug-in hybrid vehicles, of which about 1000 are from Germany, and the delivery of the models involved has also been delayed due to the risk of short circuit of high-voltage batteries.
The recall involves a total of 11 plug-in hybrid models: BMW 3-Series G20, 3-Series Travel G21, 2-Series F45 Active Tourer, 7-Series G11 / G12, 5-Series G30, 5-Series Travel G31, 4 X models (F48 X1, F39 X2, G01 X3, G05 X5) and MINI Countryman, are all equipped with high-voltage battery packs built between March 13 and August 6 this year.
BMW's internal inspection results show that during the production process, the welded beads on the high-pressure savings tank have not been completely removed. In rare cases, depending on the shape, size and location of the welded beads, the initial charging process can be contaminated, leading to operational failures, such as a short circuit in high-voltage memory, the company said.
The news was confirmed by BMW and said the relevant vehicle owners had received a separate notice. At the same time, the owners were told not to charge at the wallbox or charging stations until the vehicles were inspected. BMW said it would soon take technical action, including checking the high-voltage storage and charging history of sold vehicles, and would take more measures if necessary. At the same time, the German Federal Transport Authority (KBA) also received the news and plans to issue a formal recall notice soon.
BMW's Malaysian subsidiary said BMW vehicles sold in the country were not involved in the issue. It is reported that the recall does not involve the Chinese market.
Volkswagen ID3 also had a problem in December, and although the company did not elaborate on the nature of the problem, it said the model had a "huge" software bug and would be troublesome to fix.
