







SMM8: Canadian mining company Ivanhoe Mining Co., Ltd. (Ivanhoe Mines Ltd.) said a worker was accidentally killed at its Kamoa-Kakula copper project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Sunday, and senior management team is working with government authorities to investigate the accident.
The accident occurred underground when contractors were moving rigs at Kakula's northern plant.
The Kamoa-Kakula project is 39.6 per cent owned by Ivanhoe Mining and Zijin Mining Group, while the DRC government owns 20 per cent.
The initial capital cost of Kakula is currently estimated at $1.3 billion and the first copper concentrate is scheduled to be produced in the third quarter of 2021.
