India's state-owned oil giants have stopped chartering Chinese tankers to transport oil as relations between China and India have deteriorated.

Since last month, Chinese-flagged or Chinese-owned ships have been banned from bidding for tanker leases for Indian crude oil imports or oil products, according to people familiar with the matter.

India's state-owned oil giant plans to stop oil trading and suppliers from using Chinese ships to deliver goods to India. The move will further worsen bilateral relations strained by border conflicts between Asia's two largest economies. But the Indian

Two Indian oil executives said most of the foreign tankers they used or chartered came from Liberia, Panama and Mauritius. The use of Chinese vessels is rare and is mainly used for the transportation of liquefied petroleum gas.
