Tesla's European sales fell sharply in July

SMM: it is reported that in July, Tesla's sales in Europe fell sharply, mainly because the company still puts domestic market sales first and is still trying to achieve a balance between supply and demand in Europe.

Sales of electric cars in Europe rose 34 per cent year-on-year to 217495 in the first half of this year, while Tesla's sales in Europe fell 18 per cent to 37251, according to market research firm JATO Dynamics. The decline in Tesla's sales comes amid generous subsidies for electric cars in Europe's two largest passenger car markets, Germany and France, and a growing number of car buyers are turning to electric cars.

Tesla's registration in Germany fell 67 per cent in July from a year earlier to 203vehicles, while total sales of electric cars in Germany surged 182 per cent year-on-year, accounting for 5.3 per cent of the overall German car market, according to the German transport ministry. In the first half of this year, Tesla's registration in Germany fell 22 per cent year-on-year to 5306 vehicles. Tesla Model 3, with a minimum price of 39990 euros for Tesla, is eligible for a subsidy of 9000 euros in Germany.

Tesla registered only 119 Model 3s in France in July, compared with 620 in June, according to (CCFA), a French automaker association. In the first seven months of this year, the Model 3 ranked 62nd in French passenger car sales, with a total of 3681 sold. In 2019, Tesla sold 6455 Model 3s in France. The Model 3 has a minimum retail price of 49600 euros in France and can enjoy a French government-supported scrappage scheme for used cars, but Tesla models are not eligible for an electric car subsidy provided by the French government, which applies to models priced at 45000 euros or less.

In the Nordic market, Tesla's sales also fell sharply in July. In Norway, Tesla's sales plunged 93 per cent; in Sweden, Tesla's sales plunged 98 per cent; and in the Netherlands, Tesla's sales plunged 94 per cent.

At present, European governments are increasing incentives for electric vehicles to stimulate consumer demand for electric vehicles and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. While the European electric car market is growing rapidly, Tesla has gradually lost his lead. In the first half of this year, Renault Zoe replaced Tesla Model 3 as the best-selling all-electric car in Europe.
