SMM: according to reports, the German Transport Ministry (KBA) said that the country's new car sales in July fell 5.4% year-on-year to 314938 units, which is the best sales level so far this year. Cumulative car sales in Germany fell 30 per cent to 1.53 million in the first seven months of this year compared with the same period last year.
German car sales fell 61 per cent in April, the biggest decline this year, followed by a slight improvement in June, down 32 per cent from a year earlier, boosted by Mercedes-Benz (up 11 per cent), BMW (up 17 per cent) and Renault (up 30 per cent) in July. the decline in car sales in the country finally slowed.
In July, Tesla's sales in Germany soared 67%; Subaru rose 64%; Jeep rose 42%; Mini grew 36%; and Fiat rose 27%. However, there are also brands whose sales continue to be hit, with Smart down 52% from a year earlier, Opel down 45%, Ford down 23% and Audi down 21%.
Ferdinand Dudenh ö ffer, founder and director of (Center Automotive Research) at Duisburg Automotive Research Centre, expects significant overcapacity this year despite a rebound in demand and factory operations well below capacity. He believes that the auto industry may not return to pre-epidemic levels in the next six years.
Emmanuel Bulle, senior director of Fitch Ratings, said: "it is too early to tell the reason for the rebound in sales. We do not know whether this is due to the catch-up effect caused by the lack of traffic in the showroom in the past few weeks, or whether there has been a more stable recovery trend. During the epidemic, many consumers needed to buy a car, and now once the blockade is relaxed, they will buy it as soon as possible. " Experts say that if the current growth in car demand in Germany is indeed driven by consumers who have delayed buying cars due to the epidemic, then once they have finished buying cars, the recovery may soon come to a standstill.
