SMM7: the head of the Centinela copper mine in Antofagasta, Chile, has accepted a new salary agreement and a strike has been avoided, the union president said Monday.
Last week, the management union agreed to extend the inter-government mediation dialogue after failing to reach a new contract with Antofagasta.
Previously, trade unions voted in favor of the strike on July 13, but both sides must participate in government-led talks, and the strike usually lasts five to 10 working days to begin.
Union representatives said Antofagasta promised to make a new contract offer on Monday.
Antofagasta has yet to comment.
