SHANGHAI, Jul 28 (SMM) – China’s exports of prebaked anode, a raw material for aluminium smelting, increased 23.4% from a year earlier to 796,500 mt in the first half of the year, showed the latest customs data. The H1 exports were barely hit by the COVID-19 outbreak as producers stepped up shipments to overseas on supply glut domestically.
SMM expects China’s prebaked anode exports to pull back in H2 amid a decline in orders as some foreign aluminium smelters have adjusted their capacity to respond to the continued spreading of the COVID-19.
Customs data showed that China exported 114,000 mt of prebaked anode in June, down 30.95% on the month and down 12.78% on the year.
Canada, Russia and Malaysia were the top three export destinations in June, which took a combined 68,000 mt of prebaked anode from China last month, accounting for 59.6% of China’s total exports.
Exports of Chinese prebaked anode to Canada came in at 24,000 mt in June, 33.7% lower from a month earlier. Exports to Russia and Malaysia stood at 23,700 mt and 20,000 mt, respectively, down 0.69% and 48.76% month on month.
