SMM: the World Bureau of Metals Statistics (WBMS) released a report on Wednesday showing that there was a shortage of 17500 tons of tin in the global tin market from January to May 2020.
Total inventories are reported to be 9200 tons below the level at the end of 2019.
Demand is measured on an apparent basis, and the full impact of the national blockade imposed to contain the new crown pneumonia epidemic may not be fully reflected in trade statistics.
From January to May 2020, it was reported that the output of refined tin decreased by 7700 tons compared with the same period last year. China's apparent demand increased by 7% compared with the same period last year.
From January to May 2020, global tin demand was 157600 tons, an increase of 5.2 per cent over the same period last year. Japanese demand was 9500 tonnes, down 16.7 per cent from January to May 2019.
In May 2020, the global refined tin production was 27200 tons and the consumption was 32100 tons.
