SMM7: Indonesia's main nickel miners produced 666696 tons of ferronickel between January and June, the Minerals Director of Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yunus Saefulhak said Monday.

Indonesia also produced 418955 tons of nickel pig iron (NPI) between January and June, Saefulhak said. Ferronickel and nickel pig iron are products made from nickel ore and are used in the manufacture of stainless steel.

By contrast, Indonesia produced 517261 tons of ferronickel and 364451 tons of nickel pig iron between January and June last year, according to the website of Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

He added that Indonesia exported 517077 tons of ferronickel and 136192 tons of nickel pig iron in the first half of this year, while selling about 177462 tons of nickel iron and 175700 tons of nickel pig iron to domestic industry.
