Zambia rejects plans to stop production at Glencore Copper Mine

SMM7 March 17: Mopani Copper, a subsidiary of Glencore in Zambia, said it rejected plans to stop production at the mine, mainly because of low copper prices and damage caused by the new crown epidemic.

Mopani said it would appeal the decision and would continue mining operations until the outcome of the appeal process was determined.

Mopani2020 is expected to produce 50-70, 000 tons of copper a year. Glencore owns 71.3 per cent of Mopani, first Quantum 16.9 per cent and ZCCM-IH 10 per cent.
