SMM: BMW officially announced that it has signed a 2 billion euro battery supply contract with Swedish company Northvolt. The latter will produce battery packs in factories in northern Sweden from 2024. The plant is currently under construction and all electricity will come from wind and hydroelectric power.

Oliver Zipse, chairman of the BMW Management Committee, said: "in order to contribute to environmental protection, we aim to improve the overall environmental balance of products from resources to recycling, which is especially suitable for the energy-intensive production of high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles. That's why we now have a contract agreement with the battery manufacturer. "

At present, BMW Group has three battery suppliers around the world. By 2023, BMW plans to launch 25 new energy models, more than half of which are pure electric models. The new electric MINI was put into production at the Oxford plant in 2019, BMW iX3 will be delivered in Shenyang, China later this year, and BMW iEXT and BMW i4 will be produced in Germany in 2021.
