SMM7 14: the Information Office of the State Council is scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday morning, July 14, to invite Li Kuiwen, spokesman of the General Administration of Customs and Director of the Department of Statistical Analysis, to introduce the import and export situation in the first half of 2020 and answer reporters' questions.

A reporter asked whether there are any data on foreign trade and Sino-US trade in US dollars in the first half of this year, and what is the procurement situation from the United States under the first phase of the Sino-US economic and trade agreement, and whether China can meet the annual procurement targets stipulated in the agreement.

Li Kuiwen, spokesman for the General Administration of Customs, said that in the first half of this year, Sino-US trade totaled 1.64 trillion yuan, down 6.6 per cent from a year earlier. Of this total, exports to the United States totaled 1.25 trillion yuan, down 8.1 percent, while imports from the United States totaled 395.62 billion yuan, down 1.5 percent. The trade surplus was 851.74 billion yuan, down 10.8 percent.

We believe that China and the United States are mutually important trading partners, and Sino-US economic and trade cooperation is also mutually beneficial and win-win. We are still abiding by our commitments and implementing the agreement in the face of the difficulties in dealing with the sudden epidemic. In the first half of the year, imports from the United States fell 1.8 percentage points lower than imports as a whole, and the agreement is being implemented. Under the current situation, the healthy and stable development of bilateral economic and trade relations is of great significance to maintaining the economic stability of China and the United States and promoting the global economy to get rid of the impact of the epidemic as soon as possible. China and the United States should create conditions and atmosphere to eliminate interference and jointly implement the first phase of the Sino-US economic and trade agreement. As for the conversion of US dollars, the website of the General Administration of Customs will be released at the same time, please check through the relevant website.
