Fed Beige Book Shows Mixed US Growth, Officials Divided on Rate Hike Path Amid Economic Challenges
The US Fed's October Beige Book showed overall US economic growth but weakness across most industries, with consumption reliant on high-income households, and tariffs, oil prices, and insurance costs being passed along supply chains. Chair Warsh declined to prejudge the October 27-28 decision during the IMF annual meetings. Divisions among officials were evident: Williams said "one more rate hike this year is appropriate," Collins expects further hikes before the end of the year, but Bowman, Goolsbee, and Daly argued there is no need to rush.
