SMM7: although new crown cases began to surge, the world's largest copper producer was still operating at full capacity in May, with copper production totaling 495604 tons, up 0.67 percent from a year earlier, according to the latest data from Chile's National Bureau of Statistics.

Chile produced 474880 tons of copper in April and 492322 tons in May last year, according to Bloomberg.

Affected by the epidemic, Chile's manufacturing output fell 13.3% in May compared with the same period last year.

Chile's state copper announced late last week that it would close its smelter in the Chuquicamata mine to stop the spread of the new crown virus. However, Chile's national copper said its sales and production were not affected by the epidemic.
