Using electric vehicles to cut into Ford to achieve zero emissions in 2050

SMM: in order to further deal with the severe trend of global climate change, Ford has set a medium-term target for reducing emissions and plans to achieve carbon neutralization within its global operations by 2050. Ford has been committed to complying with the Paris Climate change Agreement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and working with California to promote stricter greenhouse gas emissions standards.

To equate the actual carbon emissions generated by companies with reduced carbon emissions, Ford will focus on the three areas that produce the most carbon dioxide, namely, vehicle emissions, the supply chain, and corporate and factory facilities. These three carbon dioxide emissions account for 95% of Ford's total emissions.

Ford said it had fully taken into account the challenges it would face in setting the 2050 target, such as consumer acceptance, government regulations, the state of the economy, and a variety of factors such as renewable, carbon-neutral electricity and renewable energy supplies. But Ford is confident of achieving this goal.

Ford employees in North America, Europe and China form an interdepartmental team that assesses information on the environment, consumers, science and technology, legislation, energy, competitive models, product life cycles, and other trends. This is where the strategic goal of carbon neutrality is developed.

To achieve that goal, Ford will spend more than $11.5 billion (81.4 billion yuan) on developing and laying out electric vehicle products to build zero-emission versions of its models, including all-electric SUV Mustang Mach-E, all-electric Ford Quanshun commercial vehicles and the all-electric Ford Fmur150 pickup truck, which will be launched in mid-2022.

At present, Ford China has taken the lead in completing the installation of solar panels in Changan Ford Motor Co., Ltd. Hangzhou Branch, with an installed capacity of about 16 megawatts, which is equivalent to meeting 25% of the plant's electricity consumption and continuously promoting the use of renewable energy.
