






SMM6: Chile's National Copper Corporation announced on Thursday that it would temporarily shut down refineries and foundry plants at the Chuquicamata mine in an effort to stop the spread of the new crown virus. However, with the end of the shift, operations will gradually return to normal. Minor production and maintenance work will continue during the shutdown and 400 workers are currently evacuated.
Chuquicamata is a copper mine owned by Chile's national copper industry, second only to EI Teniente.
In 2019, Chuquicamata Copper Mine produced 385309 tons of copper.
