Volkswagen's 150th employees start testing ID.3 electric vehicles

Published: Jun 24, 2020 10:04

SMM: it is reported that Volkswagen has begun to test its ID.3 electric vehicle at the (Zwickau) factory in Zvico, Germany. At present, the first batch of ID.3 has been delivered to test drivers, who will conduct daily stress tests on the vehicles. However, in terms of software, the test car has not yet reached the level of mass production.

About 150 Volkswagen employees will test the vehicle under real conditions in the German state of Saxony, after which developers will collect anonymous data on ID.3 use and driving behavior and evaluate it. Volkswagen said the move was to "provide additional quality assurance for ID.3 before it goes public".

In the coming weeks, the vehicles will be delivered in phases to employees at the Volkswagen Camnitz (Chemnitz), Dresden (Dresden) and Zwickau (Zwickau) plants for testing. Photos released by Volkswagen show that 33 ID.3 have been delivered to employees.

Volkswagen said that at the time of delivery to employees, the vehicle had not yet been equipped with the final version of the software, and the software would be updated regularly during the testing cycle. Even for the first vehicles to be delivered to customers in September, the remote control area of the HUD display in the smartphone connection function App-Connect and Max devices will be temporarily missing. Volkswagen has previously said that at the beginning of delivery, some functions, including automatic parking system, will not be available temporarily, and the company will gradually open up software features through upgrades in the future.

Volkswagen also said it would start producing the ID.4, VW's first electric SUV model based on the MEB platform, at its Zvico plant this year, and a live picture of the car appeared on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology last week.
