SMM: on June 17th, Volvo Group said it plans to cut about 4100 jobs worldwide in the second half of this year. Of these, consultants will account for about 15 per cent of the layoffs, with about 1250 layoffs in Sweden.

From January to May 2020, Volvo sold 208479 new cars worldwide, down 25 per cent from a year earlier. China was the only single market in which Volvo's sales grew in May, with 15132 new cars sold that month, up 21.8 per cent from a year earlier, but cumulative sales from January to May still fell 7.1 per cent to 50636. Volvo said its global sales performance had been affected by the outbreak of the new coronavirus pneumonia. Volvo wants to pay more attention to new technologies and business models.

Since mid-April, Japan's Nissan, Honda and Toyota have announced that they will lay off their U. S. branches, with a total of more than 32000 layoffs. At the end of May, the world's second wave of layoffs by car companies since the Xinguan pneumonia epidemic kicked off in Europe. British ultra-luxury brands Bentley (Bentley), Aston Martin (Aston Martin) and McLaren (Mclaren) bear the brunt. As recently as early June, Aston Martin announced that it would cut up to 10 million jobs, or about 20 per cent of the company's workforce, as part of a £500 cost-cutting plan. The British headquarters of Bentley "voluntarily" laid off 1000 people, accounting for about 1/4 of its total staff, and did not rule out the possibility of compulsory layoffs in the future.

Revenue of India's Tata Motors fell nearly 28% to 629.43 billion rupees (58.69 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter (the first quarter of 2020). The results changed from a net profit of 11.17 billion rupees (1.04 billion yuan) a year earlier to a loss of 98.94 billion rupees (9.24 billion yuan).

The UK business lost about 500 million pounds (4.48 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter, mainly dragged down by a decline in Jaguar Land Rover sales. In an effort to cut costs further, Jaguar Land Rover expects to cut nearly 1100 jobs, all from the UK. Not long ago, Jaguar Land Rover announced a layoff plan, which is expected to cut nearly half of the world's 40,000 employees, but did not spread to China.

French carmaker Renault plans to cut 1500 engineering jobs in France as part of a cost-cutting plan announced last month, according to a union source. The plan aims to cut costs by 2 billion euros over the next three years.

The company announced a cost-cutting plan in early May and is preparing to cut 15000 jobs worldwide, including nearly 4600 in France and more than 10000 in other parts of the world.

The company, which employs 180000 people, is negotiating a rescue plan with the French government. In addition, the company will reduce global production capacity to 3.3 million vehicles by 2024 from 4 million vehicles in 2019.
