SMM5: Epiroc, a Swedish mining equipment manufacturer, has signed a US $20 million contract with Chilean state copper company Codelco for the purchase and sale of large-scale equipment and services, so that Epiroc can provide related equipment and services to Codelco's Chuquicamata mine, including underground loaders, flat drilling rigs, bolters and mining trucks for underground mining projects.

Epiroc will also provide multiple Scooptram ST1030 and ST18 loaders, Boomer S2 end drills, Boltec M anchoring machines and Minetruck MT65 (an underground truck with high load capacity).

It is reported that Epiroc is expected to deliver the equipment later this year.

Helena Hedblom, President and CEO of Epiroc, said: "We are honored to be the main partner of Codelco because it can significantly extend the useful life of Chuquicamata mines in the most efficient, effective and safe way."

Chuquicamata, located 1650 kilometers north of Santiago, Chile, is an open-pit underground copper mine. At present, the Chuquicamata mine is transforming from the world's largest open-pit mine to a high-tech underground mine.

According to Codelco, the conversion is expected to extend Chuquicamata's mine life by 40 years.
