Toyota, the biggest contributor to the Asian market, announces global sales in April

On May 28th, Toyota officially released global production and sales figures for April. Toyota (including Lexus, excluding Daihatsu and Hino, the same below) sold 423000 new cars worldwide, down 46.3 percent from January to April this year. Global sales of new cars totaled 2.488 million, down 19.8 per cent from the same period last year.

Toyota (including Lexus, excluding Daihatsu and Hino, the same below) sold 423000 new cars worldwide, down 46.3 percent from the same period last year. From January to April this year, global sales of new cars totaled 2.488 million, down 19.8 percent from the same period last year.

Specific to the region, Asia accounted for the highest share of sales, with sales of 178000 new cars in April, down 28.7% from January to April, down 702000 from January to April, down 23.8% from a year earlier. North America sold 94000 vehicles in April, down 56.4% from a year earlier. 659000 vehicles were sold from January to April, down 21.7% from a year earlier. Toyota sold 98000 new cars in Japan in April, down 20.1% from a year earlier. From January to April, Toyota sold a total of 519000 new cars, down 8.4% from a year earlier.

In terms of production, Toyota produced 379000 new cars worldwide in April 2020, down 50.8 per cent from a year earlier. A total of 2.359 million new cars were produced from January to April this year, down 23.0% from the same period last year.

It is worth noting that Toyota's luxury brand Lexus sold 42000 vehicles worldwide in April, down 35.6% from a year earlier, and sold 183000 new cars in the first four months of this year, down 21.9% from a year earlier.

Not long ago, Toyota officially released the group's joint financial statements for fiscal year 2019 (April 2019 to March 2020). Toyota Group's sales in fiscal 2019 were 29.9299 trillion yen (1.9724 trillion yuan), down 1.0 percent from a year earlier, according to data. Net profit was 2.0761 trillion yen (136.8 billion yuan), up 10.3% from a year earlier. Toyota forecasts sales of 24 trillion yen (1.5817 trillion yuan) in fiscal year 2020.
