Chinese firms and institutions met for building group standards for imported steel scrap

About 50 Chinese firms and institutions across the industry chain of steel scrap recycling, processing, utilisation, trade and inspection met in Tianjin on Friday May 22 as China’s iron and steel sector is trying to hammer out group standards for imported ferrous scrap.

SHANGHAI, May 25 (SMM) – About 50 Chinese firms and institutions across the industry chain of steel scrap recycling, processing, utilisation, trade and inspection met in Tianjin on Friday May 22 as China’s iron and steel sector is trying to hammer out group standards for imported ferrous scrap.

                          

The meeting was held by the China Metallurgical Information and Standardization Institute (CMISI) and China Association of Metal Scrap Utilization (CAMU).

 

Delegates from industry bodies— the CAMU, CMISI and China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), from steelmakers—Baowu, HBIS (Hebei Iron and Steel), Jiangsu Shagang, Shandong Rizhao, Angang Lianzhong (Guangzhou) Stainless Steel, Guangxi Liuzhou and Hunan Valin Lianyuan, from the Dalian Commodity Exchange, Tianjin Customs and Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) attended the meeting.

 

Other delegates were from recycling firms, processors, traders, equipment manufacturers and inspection firms.

 

Steep scrap utilisation rate in China was only 11.5% in the 12th Five-Year (2011-2015), and is expected to reach 20% by the end of the 13th Five-Year (2016-2020), far away from the international average of 36%, according to Li Shubin, Secretary General of the (CAMU).
