[SMM Express] 11 production units of 5 mining companies in Peru are about to restart operations

According to (SNMPE), Peru's national association of mining, oil and energy, 11 of the first batch of applicants from five mining companies have been reviewed by the agency and will restart operations within the next few hours, and the first phase of Peruvian mining will restore 80 per cent of capacity.

SMM5, 14 Jun: according to the Peruvian National Mining, Petroleum and Energy Association (SNMPE), among the first batch of applicants belonging to the large mining industry, 11 units of five mining companies have been reviewed by the above-mentioned institutions and will resume operations within the next few hours, and the first phase of the Peruvian mining industry will restore 80 percent of its production capacity.

SNMPE noted that a total of 39 production units have submitted their health contingency plans and agreements to the Peruvian Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Energy and Mines, requesting to restart operations.

The president of SNMPE stressed that Peru's mining industry needs to resume operations as soon as possible in order to mitigate the economic losses suffered by the country as a result of the epidemic.

It is reported that the Quellaveco project with an investment of US $5.3 billion will be restarted within three months.

Peru, as the world's second largest copper producer, the mining industry occupies an important economic position in the country. In 2019, Peru produced a total of 2.4 million tons of copper.
