China’s installed power battery capacity rallied 30% in April

China's installed capacity of batteries to power electric vehicles climbed 29.5% from a month ago to 3.6GWh in April, following a surge of 363.2% in the month of March, showed data from the China Automobile Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, suggesting the country’s EV sector continues to recover from the fallout caused by the coronavirus pandemic. 

SHANGHAI, May 12 (SMM) – China's installed capacity of batteries to power electric vehicles climbed 29.5% from a month ago to 3.6GWh in April, following a surge of 363.2% in the month of March, showed data from the China Automobile Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, suggesting the country’s EV sector continues to recover from the fallout caused by the coronavirus pandemic. 


On a yearly basis, the installed capacity of power batteries was 33.7% lower in April, but the decline narrowed from a 45.6% drop in March. 


In the first four months of the year, China's installed capacity of batteries to power EVs amounted to 9.3GWh, down 47.7% from the same period last year. 


Separately, data published by the Innovation Alliance showed that China produced about 4.7GWh power batteries in April, 5.5% higher on the month while 35.5% lower on the year. 


Domestic power battery production in January-April decreased 52.1% year on year to 13GWh.
