The following is an excerpt from the weekly report of the SMM nickel industry chain:

At the end of July last year, the mining ban in Indonesia fermented, and the mine price gradually rose to an annual high in mid-October last year. At the end of the year, as the news was digested and the reserve cycle of the iron plant was longer, the mine price fell back. However, the recent tight inventory of iron plants, coupled with the Philippine epidemic, caused nickel mines to delay monthly shipments, and a shortage of nickel ore supply in the market. In addition, nickel and iron prices rebounded in April, profits were seriously gradually improved from the previous upside down, and the acceptance of raw material prices was relaxed. Mine prices are rising again.

1.8% of Philippine mines currently have no mines to ship, and there is no market. 1.65% of Indonesia has no supply because of its mineral ban. Since April, the price of nickel and iron has rebounded, rising from 872.5 yuan / nickel point at the beginning of April to 955 yuan / nickel point this week. The recovery of nickel iron price is the main support for the rise of nickel mine prices. If nickel and iron still maintain the state of substantial upside down of previous profits, some manufacturers continue to buy mines with weak willingness to produce, and the possibility of ore prices rising is relatively small. The latest survey shows that Ferro Nickel still reduced in April, but production will pick up in May as high iron prices stabilize and the mine ends ease.

[SMM Nickel Flash] Based on nickel ore prices from 25 days ago, smelter profits for high-grade NPI remained high this week. However, from the current raw material side, ore prices from both the Philippines and Indonesia increased, while auxiliary material prices saw a slight pullback, leading to an increase in the cash cost of producing high-grade NPI from spot ore. At the same time, high-grade NPI prices experienced some pullback, making it difficult for smelter profits to see sustained improvement.

However, after the selling activity subsided, upstream quotations and the market center gradually returned to normal levels, supported by cost factors. Looking ahead, as the Chinese New Year holiday approaches, market activity is expected to remain subdued, and high-grade NPI prices are projected to hover at highs with limited fluctuations.
