Liu Xiaoming, vice minister of transportation, said that during this holiday, more than 4000 transportation people stuck to the front line, busy on vehicles and stations, and really had a full "Labor Day."

During the May Day holiday, the railway, highway, waterway, civil aviation, and postal industries throughout the country operated normally, the transport order was good, the market was stable and orderly, the epidemic situation was not reported and unstable incidents in the industry were not reported, and there were no large-scale highway congestion for a long time. Major and above emergencies and production safety accidents were not reported, and the situation of transportation safety in production was generally stable. From May 1 to 5, the total number of passengers sent by railways, roads, waterways and civil aviation across the country totaled 121 million, with a daily average of 24.2983 million, an increase of 17.9 percent over the five days before the festival (April 26 to 30), down 53 percent from the same period last year. Of these, the national railway sent a total of 28.477 million passengers, an increase of 55.1% over the previous month, down 60.9% from the same period last year; the national road passenger volume was about 86.14 million, an increase of 12.4%, down 49.9% from the same period last year; 3.713 million passengers were sent on water, an increase of 90.6% over the previous month, down 32.9% from the same period last year; and 3.16 million passengers were transported by civil aviation throughout the country, up 8% from the previous month and 63.8% from the same period last year. The national postal industry collected 1.068 billion parcels, an increase of 37.42% over the same period last year, 1.038 billion parcels delivered, an increase of 38.93% over the same period last year, and the average daily flow of highways reached 43.1822 million, down 7.76% from the same period in 2019.

In the next step, the Ministry will conscientiously implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech and, in accordance with the decision-making arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, thoroughly summarize and evaluate the regular epidemic prevention and control and transportation support work during the "May 1" holiday. Around the exposed problems, we will make up for the shortcomings, plug loopholes, and strong and weak points, and focus on the following three aspects of work: first, we will further improve and deepen the implementation of normal epidemic prevention and control measures, external defense input, and internal defense rebound. We will not slack off to do a good job in the prevention and control of the regular epidemic situation.
