Primary aluminium inventories dropped 32,000 mt over the holiday

Social inventories of primary aluminium ingots in China continued to fall over the five-day Labour Day holiday, as demand remained robust while arrivals were limited.

SHANGHAI, May 6 (SMM) – Social inventories of primary aluminium ingots in China continued to fall over the five-day Labour Day holiday, as demand remained robust while arrivals were limited.

 

SMM data showed that social inventories of primary aluminium ingots across eight consumption areas in China, including SHFE warrants, decreased 32,000 mt from Thursday April 30 to 1.172 million mt as of Wednesday May 6, after a decline of 155,000 mt in the week ended April 30.

 

Details:

Wuxi, Jiangsu – 498,000 mt

Shanghai – 155,000 mt

Nanhai, Guangdong – 248,000 mt

Gongyi, Henan – 75,000 mt

Hangzhou, Zhejiang – 119,000 mt

Tianjin – 56,000 mt

Linyi, Shandong – 8,000 mt

Chongqing –13,000 mt

This week (July 4–10, 2026), the secondary aluminum market outside China remained in the doldrums, with the price centers of aluminum scrap and ADC12 declining further. As the impact of supply disruptions in the Middle East gradually faded, market trading logic returned to supply-demand fundamentals, while downstream procurement demand remained sluggish, pushing aluminum scrap and secondary aluminum alloy prices outside China under pressure. The overall trading atmosphere was relatively sluggish.
