Guangxi Tianyuan New Energy Material to see first batch of lithium carbonate output in late May

Guangxi Tianyuan New Energy Material has put its 10,000 mt/year lithium carbonate production line into operation, SMM learned.

SHANGHAI, Apr 30 (SMM) – Guangxi Tianyuan New Energy Material has put its 10,000 mt/year lithium carbonate production line into operation, SMM learned.

With spodumene as feedstock, the production line is expected to see the first batch of output of 20-30 mt in late May.

SMM assessed prices of domestic battery-grade lithium carbonate at 44,000-45,500 yuan/mt as of April 30, keeping refreshing record lows.

China’s cobalt sulphate output stood at 3,615 mt (Co content) in February, down 16.6% month on month, but up 99.6% year on year. Some cobalt salts plants were closed for 7-10 days in February for the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday, which led to the decline in cobalt sulphate output.

Ganfeng Lithium, a top lithium producer in China, has said it is stepping up efforts to construct a lithium hydroxide expansion project, with an annualised capacity of 50,000 mt, to catch up with the schedule delayed by the coronavirus outbreak. The project is slated to come online in Q4 this year.
