[SMM Chromium Flash] Sylvania’s Average Chrome Contract Selling Price Falls 14% QoQ to US$269/mt
Sylvania Platinum's average chrome contract selling price (CIF) declined 14% quarter on quarter to US$269/mt in Q1 FY2027, from US$310/mt in Q4 FY2026, according to its latest quarterly report. The lower realized contract price coincided with a decline in recognized chrome revenue, which fell 29% to US$3.641 million from US$5.141 million in the previous quarter.
The decline in chrome revenue occurred despite a 67% increase in attributable Thaba Joint Venture chrome concentrate production to 29,799 mt. Sylvania explained that revenue recognition depends on concentrate shipped and loaded on board vessels, whereas production is recorded based on chrome dispatched. Lower shipped concentrate volumes, together with the decrease in the average CIF selling price, therefore affected revenue during the quarter. The company also reported that 30,562 mt of chrome concentrate remained in work-in-progress at the end of September 2026.
