SMM4, March 13: Tianyi Lithium Industry is currently building a plant with an annual capacity of 40, 000 tons of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide in Yibin, Sichuan Province. Among them, the first phase of the project plans to produce 20,000 tons of lithium carbonate per year, which is expected to be completed and put into production in November 2020; the production capacity plan of the second phase of the project is still uncertain.

Pilbara Minerals and Yibin Tianyi signed a five-year underwriting agreement to obtain 75000 tons of spodumene concentrate from the Pilbara Minerals project, of which 60, 000 tons will be supplied in 2020.

Tianyi Lithium completed the first shipment of 20,000 tons of lithium concentrate at the end of March and the second shipment is scheduled for late April / early May 2020.

Yibin Tianyi Lithium will become a major player in the supply chain in the Ningde era, the world's largest maker of lithium-ion batteries and a major shareholder in Pilbara Minerals. The company has invested heavily in lithium chemical capacity, and the first 25000tpa LCE plant is currently under construction and is scheduled to begin production in June 2020.

Despite the global impact of COVID-19, lithium concentrates were sold to China and South Korea in March, especially in China. Demand is likely to moderate in the near future and end-use demand is expected to remain weak due to COVID-19.
