Daily Review of High carbon Ferro Chromium Market on April 9, 2020

Published: Apr 9, 2020 11:18

On April 9, under the pressure of the bidding price of the mainstream stainless steel plant, the rising trend of the ferrochromium industry chain fell back. The ex-factory price of high-carbon ferrochromium in Inner Mongolia was 5700-5750 yuan / 50 basis tons, the northwest region 5700-5800 yuan / 50 basis tons, and the mainstream quotation in Sichuan was 58506000 yuan / 50 basis tons. The price of chromium ore is also slightly relaxed, mainly because the chromium mine in the South African port is slightly relaxed, and the Jigang chromium mine can be shipped under the approved conditions, but at present, the South African port can send limited resources, and it is still in short supply before the inland transportation resumes. The spot quotation for domestic and South Africa 40-42% chromium concentrate remains high at 27-31 yuan / tonnage, but it is slightly reduced by 1 yuan / tonnage compared with before the festival. At present, the increase in chromium ore is huge, but ferrochromium is slightly tired. Many manufacturers in the north and south have plans to reduce production and overhaul in April, and the national output of ferrochromium is likely to decline in April.

[SMM Stainless Steel Flash] European Commission Launches Consultation on Expanding Scope of EU Steel Regulation
The European Commission launched a targeted public consultation on July 28 to gather stakeholder views on the product scope of the EU Steel Regulation, marking the first review of whether additional steel products should be brought under the regulation's trade measures — less than a month after it entered into force on July 1, 2026. The consultation runs for eight weeks until September 28, 2026. Four product categories are under review: tubes, pipes and hollow profiles of cast iron; non-alloy and other alloy wire; stainless steel wire; and non-alloy and other alloy forged bars. Input is invited from steel producers, users, traders, importers, and industry associations. The Commission is required to complete its assessment by December 31, 2026, after which it may decide whether to amend the regulation's product coverage.
