SHANGHAI, Mar 30 (SMM) – China exported 95,000 mt of silicon metal in January-February, down 9.4% from the same period last year, showed data from China customs.

The year on year comparison of export data in the first two months of a year irons out the impact from the Chinese New Year holiday, and reflects mostly the changes in demand and prices.
SMM expects China’s silicon metal exports to rebound in March as deliveries for short-term orders struck after the CNY holiday were mostly fulfilled in March.
The COVID-19 impact on silicon exports will manifest the most in April-May, after the shutdown of overseas downstream producers and disrupted shipments amid the outbreak weighed on exports since late-March.
