Newmont, the world's largest gold producer, withdrew its production guidelines this year, mainly because it closed four mines during the outbreak and warned that the supply chain could be disrupted.

SMM3, March 24: Newmont, the world's largest gold producer, has withdrawn this year's production guidelines, mainly because it closed four mining areas during the outbreak and warned that the supply chain could be disrupted.

So far, four Newmont mines have entered overhaul mode: the Musselwhite and Eleonore mines in Canada, the Cerro Negro gold mine in Argentina and the Yanacocha gold mine in Peru.

Other open mining areas may also be closed if they pose a risk to surrounding communities or company employees.

The company is expected to produce 1.4 million ounces of gold in the first quarter of 2020, compared with a forecast of 6.4 million cents for the full year last month.

The company said production, shipping and transportation had not been seriously affected, but if the government asked for the closure of mining areas or borders, it would have a serious impact on shipments.

In addition, Newmont has set up a team to assess potential risks to the supply chain and develop responses.
