SMM2, March 28: CEO Roland Harings of Aurubis, Europe's largest copper smelter, said Thursday that the company would seek expansion of non-copper metals through acquisitions. In order to expand the production of other metals, the company will strengthen the recovery and treatment capacity of composite ores.
In addition, Aurubis will seek investment opportunities outside Europe, such as North America. Roland believes that recycling markets outside Europe should be relatively backward and therefore have more room for development.
With the transformation of new energy and the rapid development of the electric car market, Roland believes that demand for core metals in Europe is expected to remain strong.
Over the next three years, Aurubis will focus more on metal production and recycling. That's because, despite denials from the European Commission early last year, the company still plans to sell its calender copper business.
The EU competition regulator also launched an investigation into Aurubis's planned acquisition of Metallo for 380 million euros in November 2019, and the Roland wants the agency to make a decision by April at the latest.
