At present, the energy density of LFP battery cells mass-produced by Guoxuan High-Tech has exceeded 190Wh/kg, with the battery system energy density above 140 Wh/kg

SHANGHAI, Feb 25 (SMM) – Chinese lithium battery maker Hefei Guoxuan Hi-Tech announced on February 24 that the energy density of its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells, after additions of special additives to cathode materials and optimisation of battery chemistry system and process technology, has broken above 200Wh/kg in the experimental stage.

At present, the energy density of LFP battery cells mass-produced by Guoxuan High-Tech has exceeded 190Wh/kg, with the battery system energy density above 140 Wh/kg. The system energy density will surpass 150 Wh/kg if the energy density for per battery cell rose above 200 Wh/kg.

Mainstream ternary batteries supplied by China’s top battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) currently have an energy density of 160Wh/kg, with the highest level of 180 Wh/kg. The energy density of ternary batteries produced by BYD stands mostly at 160Wh/kg, while the highest level is 161Wh/kg.

In terms of the capacity of power batteries installed on new energy vehicles, BYD and Guoxuan Hi-Tech are the second and third largest power battery producers in China after CATL.

Guoxuan Hi-Tech mainly produces LFP batteries while CATL and BYD focus both on ternary and LFP batteries.

In 2019, the installed capacity of LFP batteries produced by Guoxuan Hi-Tech stood at 3,218 MWh, with a market share of 15.1%, with the share of ternary batteries at only 0.5%.

CATL’s LFP batteries took up the greatest market share of 56% in China last year, with its share of ternary batteries standing at 55.6%.

Nickel Prices Plunge, Triggering Low-Price Sell-Offs and Limited Trading Volume Amid Market Panic
[SMM Nickel Flash] March 20 News: Supply side, under the impact of the sharp pullback in nickel prices yesterday, low-price sell-offs emerged in the market, fueling panic sentiment and loosening upstream quotations. Demand side, some steel mills and traders made purchases at low prices, but the trading volume of low-priced cargoes remained limited. At present, many steel mills are bidding below 1,080 yuan/nickel unit, but deals are difficult to conclude. Overall, market quotations loosened amid yesterday’s decline in nickel prices, and high-grade NPI prices fell in stages.
