BYD sells 219000 new energy vehicles in 2019 to win the top spot in global sales

SMM1, March 8: BYD recently released a sales report, data show that BYD cars sold a total of 451000 new vehicles in 2019, of which, the cumulative sales of new energy models reached 219000, EV pure electric model sales increased by 42.5% compared with the same period last year, the total production and sales of new energy exceeded 730000.

It is reported that the new generation of Tang family sold 76741 new cars in 2019, up 23.6 percent from the same period last year; the Song family sold 177174 vehicles in 2019 and 23297 in December, up 26.4 percent from the same period last year; the Qin family sold 62189 new cars in the whole year; the Yuan family sold 61900 new cars in 2019, and the EV pure electric model grew 73.4 percent from the same period last year; and the e-series sold 22422 new cars in 2019.

With subsidies for new energy vehicles falling, BYD's sales of new energy vehicles fell for the first time in July 2019 from a year earlier to 16567, down 11.84 per cent from a year earlier. At the time, it was thought that much of this was due to the implementation of the new deal on new energy subsidies, which generally had an impact on sales in the early stages of the policy change, and a similar situation occurred in 2018. However, in the following six months, BYD monthly sales showed a year-on-year decline. As Tesla's production capacity rose, so did its sales, eventually handing over 367500 vehicles worldwide in 2019, setting a new record. Among them, Model 3 is the best sales item of the year, with 300000 vehicles sold throughout the year.

As a result, the BYD 229500 scored less than Tesla's 367500. This is the first time in nearly five years that BYD has sold less new energy vehicles than Tesla, giving up the top spot in the global sales of new energy vehicles.

SMM believes that Tesla's domestic and sales growth will bring more pressure than Yadi. In 2020, Byadihan is expected to launch a new energy version of the new car positioning of large cars, from the positioning point of view, and Tesla Model 3 has a certain degree of competition. Prior to the BYD new energy version of the subsidized price range of about 22.99-359900 yuan, and the price of Biadihan EV is likely to be higher. However, Han EV is expected to surpass Model 3 in terms of endurance, performance and configuration. At present, the domestic version of Tesla's best-selling model Model 3 has been listed in China, and the price is competitive, the listing of domestic Tesla will further increase the pressure on BYD.

India to build a six-month strategic stockpile of lithium, cobalt and rare earths as demand rises
Amid sustained demand growth, India plans to build a strategic reserve of critical minerals including lithium, cobalt, nickel, copper and rare earths. The stockpile will be sized to cover six months of domestic consumption, aiming to guard against risks of global supply disruptions and sharp raw material price volatility. Led by India’s Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Heavy Industries, the reserve covers key raw materials essential for new energy vehicles, energy storage and the electronics sector, fields where India currently relies heavily on imports. At present, the United States, China, South Korea and other countries have already established strategic reserve systems for critical minerals.
