SHANGHAI, Dec 25 (SMM) – Handan, a major steelmaking hub in north China’s Hebei province escalated the smog alert to red, the highest level in Beijing’s three-tier warning system for heavy air pollution, on Tuesday afternoon.
The alert will remain in place until further notice.
The top steelmaking hub of Tangshan activated an orange alert, the second-highest in the warning system, and began to implement level II smog control measures at noon Monday.
